The county land was actually taken from Bullitt county, Nelson County and Shelby Counties. Spencer became Kentucky’s 33rd county. Spencer County was named after Captain Spier Spencer who fought and died in the battle of Tippecanoe. Eden, Finchville, Bloomfield, Fairfield, and Cox’s Creek. Spencer County was ranked 19th in the USA of in terms of growth at 33% from 2000-2005. The population of Spencer County in 2010 was 17,061 and growing. Spencer County also holds Taylorsville Lake, a 3,050 acre artificial lake owned by the Army Core of Engineers. Taylorsville Lake is shared with Nelson and Anderson counties.
